A Beginner’s Guide to my Top 5 Essential Oils

Over the past few years, I have expanded my essential oil collection quite a bit. Buying them all at the same time can be overwhelming (because of the price and because you might not know what to do with them). That’s why I thought I would write a quick post for which essential oils you can start your collection with, and what you can start using them for!

My top used essential oils from my collection are:

  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Tea Tree
  • Eucalyptus
  • Rosemary

And here’s what I like to use them for:

Lavender

Lavender is one of the most versatile essential oils out there! It has the reputation to be relaxing for the body and help with sleep. It can also be used for skincare (cleaning cuts, easing skin irritations, etc.). The main way I use lavender is either for a sleep aid, or with a mix of other flowery oils to make a room smell fresh.

If you don’t have a diffuser just yet – not to worry! Just add some lavender to water in a spray bottle and spritz over your pillows before going to sleep and it’ll work its magic ❤

Peppermint

Peppermint oil is another one of m favourite oils. I mainly use it for headaches. Just place a few drops onto a cotton pad and rub onto the aching area and get almost instant relief!

Another way I use peppermint oil is in my diy toothpaste recipe! It helps to keep your breath minty and fresh 🙂

Tea Tree

Tea tree oil has powerful antiseptic properties. Its is very versatile and I’ve been using this one ever since I was young. The main way I use this oil is in my bed time skin care routine for acne. You can place a drop of this oil onto a cotton pad and dab it onto the blemish before bed and in the morning the redness will have almost completely disappeared!

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is one of my favourite essential oils! It helps boost your immune system and relieves respiratory conditions. It can help improve coughs and clear sinuses! You can put it in your diffuser, or if you don’t have one, just mix with a carrier oil (i.e. coconut or almond) and directly apply it to your chest/ neck. You’ll feel relief instantly ❤

Rosemary

Rosemary is an amazing oil for your hair and skin. I like to use it when I make my own shampoo, along with my cedar wood oil. Rosemary is known to stimulate hair growth and help relieve the symptoms of a dry scalp! Just add a few drops to your shampoo, or make you own diy hair mask from scratch! Either one, I’m sure your hair will love 🙂

Interested in learning more? I would personally recommend the Aromatherapy Bible! It has so much information in it surrounding the properties of essential oils, what you can use them for, and which ones mix well together!

That’s all for now! Thanks for reading, comments and questions are always welcome ❤
