Matcha tea is not only a tasty green powder, but it has SO many benefits for one’s health! The tea originated in China; however, it has deep traditional roots in Japan. Ceremonial matcha is often used in traditional tea ceremonies, and is different from your regular ol matcha; it’s of a much higher quality. Whether you use ceremonial or regular, the benefits can still be seen. Personally, I use the regular matcha, and it seems to work just fine for me.
Matcha has all sorts of benefits, from being a better source of caffeine, great for your skin, and overall super yummy! So here’s our top 5 reasons you should start drinking matcha tea:
- Just one cup of tea contains a TON of chlorophyll which helps give it that beauty of a colour. Chlorophyll is what gives plants that bright green colour. This ingredient helps to protect your skin from all those impurities floating around our environment (i.e. airborne chemicals).
- Matcha can also be used as a natural antibiotic for acne prone skin!
- High levels of vitamin K are often found in this drink, which can improve blood circulation.
- The tea also contains something called epigallocatechin-3-gallate otherwise know as EGCG. EGCG helps to boost your metabolism during exercise, which can help with weight loss.
- As previously mentioned, matcha is a source of caffeine! So swap out that coffee for a cup of tea once in a while, and experience the benefits first hand.
I (Kelsey) gave up coffee about a year ago, and recently began drinking matcha tea more regularly. Since doing so, I can honestly say that my skin has cleared up significantly! As someone who has struggled with acne for years, this has been a welcomed surprise.
P.S! Not a fan of taste of matcha? Not ready to give up delicious coffee (like Riley…)? Well another way to incorporate the tea into your life is by adding it to your beauty routine through DIY skin scrubs, masks, toners, etc. (Don’t worry – this post is on the way!). The possibilities are endless really.
Overall matcha is super great for your health, and incorporating it into your routine and diet would most likely create some positive changes!

How To Prepare:
Now if you’re making regular ol’ matcha you can use either a matcha bowl or a mug. I typically use a mug. You can start by straining the matcha to avoid clumps if you’d like, but this really isn’t necessary (it’s just a common preference). Next, pour the hot water in and whisk the matcha until it is completely blended and you’ve got yourself a yummy cuppa!
I also sometimes like to add some almond milk and cinnamon to spice things up a bit; however, this does tamper with the quality and purity of the matcha 🙂
We hope you enjoy your first cup of matcha! As always, let us know what you think.
